My relationship was established in 1959 when I hiked up and over the summit from the back. Sitting alone at the top, I filled my head with thoughts of one day ascending the routes out below me. By the Sixties the relationship had blossomed into an all-out affair, although I was not her only lover. The mountain challenged me and other devotees to go further and harder than we thought our skills and equipment could go. Yamnuska forced us out of the norm and made us the leaders we became.

Nous regroupons ici les parties II et III du livre Yam pour des raisons de logique, puisque ces deux parties sont organisées et s’articulent chronologiquement et que toutes deux parties se consacrent à célébrer les moments forts de l’exploration « verticale » de la face sud de Yamnuska. La première voie gravie sur Yamnuska le fut par un trio – Hans Gmoser, Leo Grillmair et Isabel Spreat. C’était en 1952.
